At the Open Book, our staff is dedicated to the love and knowledge of books. Our personal customary service is based on both handing you the book you want, and offering you knowledge about other books that may be to your interest. We are more than a book retail store. We are a part of our community.

The Open Book was started by Tom Gower in 1972.His daughter Margaret worked in the store all through high school, and managed the McAlister Square location when it opened in 1978.That's when Duff Bruce was hired and eventually he and Margaret were wed. The Open Book moved to its current location in the early '90's and the other locations were closed.

The we host many book signings and have hosted books signings for authors well-known in the Greenville area such as Pat Conroy and Nicholas Sparks. We host book fairs for many schools and support The Greenville Literacy Association, The YWCA , and many other civic organizations.
